INSTITUTE OF BIOLOGICAL PSYCHIATRY is the center for biomedical research and clinical biochemistry in the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region of Denmark serving approximately 1.8 mill people in and around Copenhagen.

The main site is located at the hospital campus of the Mental Health Center Sct. Hans in Roskilde overlooking the fjord and with a spectacular to the dome where a thousand years of Danish Kings and Queens are buried.

The Institute is headed by Professor and Research Director Thomas Werge and is also affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Copenhagen.

The overall objective is to identify and describe the biological mechanisms leading to psychiatric disorders. The research focuses both on the association between genetics and mental illness and the expression mental disorders.

The Institute works on a daily basis together with a number of national and international partners and the institute represents one of the six partners in the Lundbeck Foundation "Initiative for Integrative Psychiatric Research" (iPSYCH). Lundbeck Foundation's grant to iPSYCH is the largest single grant ever given to the psychiatric research in Denmark. Further information about iPSYCH can be found on
